I sing because… It makes me happy, pure and simple. It brings me joy. And it clears my mind.
Prior to Voices, I sang… In my college choir for three years. But that was in the early 1990s! So I took a LONG hiatus from singing with a group before Voices entered my life. That doesn’t mean I wasn’t singing on my own….in the shower, in the car…all the top-flight venues! I first heard about Voices when… I can’t remember where I read about the group, but it prompted me to check out the website and I knew this was the group of happy, funny people for me. But I found Voices just as the spring season was ending. So I had to wait all summer for my first rehearsal. It was worth the wait!
I describe Voices to friends as… caring, talented, hilarious, smart, loud and unserious.
My favorite Voices moment was… It’s cruel to ask me to pick just one! Singing my first solo, “Say a Little Prayer,” in the Fall 2014 show is up there. Super Saturday rehearsals when we really start hearing a song come together—those are always great. Paul Surface’s rendition of “Amazing Grace” was a beautiful moment too. I could go on and on!
Guilty pleasure: Dance Moms. Don’t judge.
